Hi! I’m Isaac Oakeson and I’m the owner of The Ultimate Civil PE Review Course. Like you, I know how challenging and rewarding it is to be a Civil Engineer. You need to get the NCEES PE Civil Handbook (free from your NCEES account), and we recommend homework to do from the PPI book Civil Engineering Practice Problems. If you’re asking yourself if the Civil Engineering Reference Manual is still needed, then the short answer is no, but we do think it still helps learn engineering topics as you need it, and it does pair nicely with the practice problems book. All videos will have downloadable slides associated with the lectures. You can also download the practice exams and any related material in the downloads section of the course. Videos cannot be downloaded as they are proprietary to the site. PDFs of all the video practice problems are also provided so you can work on them before seeing how we work on them. There are plenty of cheat sheets and other downloadable items too!
While we wish we could guarantee that – passing is really left up to the individual student and is a function of how much work you put into studying and practicing. We do not make a guarantee that you’ll pass, but we know for darn sure that this course will set you up on a framework for success! Most courses say that they guarantee to pass, which simply means you get to retake the course at no charge (typically only once). Why, yes, there is. Finish going through the course modules, and you’ll magically receive one stamped with your name on it (it’s magical). Sometimes these are required for company reimbursement (if your company is cool like that).
The course has ten lecture modules (with sub-modules) following the NCEES specifications. The videos for each lecture run from 10-40 minutes. So, there’s a lot of content. This doesn’t include the 400 video practice problems ranging from 2 to 6 minutes. You’ll need time to digest this, and that’s the point. You should be giving yourself an absolute minimum of months to study hard for the PE exam, and we will be here to help every step of the way.
The course is comprised of recorded lectures and video practice problems that you can view at your own pace. We also do LIVE problem-solving sessions (typically monthly). Live problem-solving sessions are recorded and archived for your consumption whenever you’d like them. If you’d like a concept or problem covered then simply post it in our private group or email it to us and we’ll get it in on the next session!
No. That’s why we are here to help you navigate it. First-time takers fail 32-42% of the time. Repeat takers fail over 60% of the time (ouch) – this is even worse since it’s gone CBT. Check out NCEES.org for typical pass rates. They go up and down for each exam cycle. Don’t worry about the pass rates, though – take this course, and you’ll ace it. We’ve got your back.

Yes! The exam is now wholly computer-based as of January 2022 and is offered year-round. The specifications didn’t change, and the course follows the spec. You will have access to the NCEES PE Handbook and your standards as searchable PDFs. Because it’s just equations, we think the CERM still has a place in our hearts and can be a helpful resource for learning engineering concepts.
